Review No.6. Chivas Regal 12 Year Old
Chivas Regal is marketed as an upscale brand of blended whisky. This is the entry bottle to the Chivas Regal range and is a big seller for Pernod Ricard who own this brand. A main component of this is Strathisla 12 Year Old single malt scotch whisky.
Whisky: Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% vol.
Nose: Warm sultanas and raisins. Some vanilla and cinnamon
Taste: Grain and vanilla, dried fruit mixture, dark fruits, nutty hints
Finish: Short but fruity finish, some oak bitterness at the end
Score: 3
Summary: This is a straightforward pleasant blend. Very mellow and approachable and reacts well to a drop of water. I don’t have a lot to say about this one. It doesn’t excite my taste buds but does deliver nice fruity flavours that goes down well with a bit of water. I find this blend to be dependable and consistent.
Scoring scale: My scores reflect a balance of the overall experience, availability and cost for a whisky,
1 – not to my preference
2 – tastes fine but does not excite me
3 – more to my liking and would revisit occasionally
4 – very much to my liking and would consider as a regular feature on my whisky shelf
5 – permanent feature on my whisky shelf
