When you think of Canadian whisky you would probably think of Canadian Club as it is stocked in major supermarkets in the UK. Crown Royal is not so easy to find in the UK. It comes in a nice looking purple pouch and the price for this is in line with other entry level blends.
Whisky: Crown Royal Canadian Blended Whiskey, 40% vol.
Nose: Vanilla, vanilla……. and more vanilla. Syrup and brown sugar
Taste: Vanilla dominates, syrup and some hints of custard
Finish: Very short, hardly any aftertaste apart some leftover hints of………VANILLA
Summary: There are so many flavours you can find in whisky but with Crown Royal you are only really getting one. This is not a criticism, at the price the price I can accept this. I actually enjoy Crown Royal, it is approachable and easy to drink but don’t expect an interesting experience. Due to the sweetness of the vanilla flavours I tend not to mix this one and just drink it neat. However, if you have a sweet tooth and love vanilla then I would expect you would like this one.
Scoring scale: My scores reflect a balance of the overall experience, availability and cost for a whisky,
1 – not to my preference
2 – tastes fine but does not excite me
3 – more to my liking and would revisit occasionally
4 – very much to my liking and would consider as a regular feature on my whisky shelf
5 – permanent feature on my whisky shelf
