Review No.137. Glen Marnoch Limited Reserve Sherry Cask Finish

Whisky: Glen Marnoch Limited Reserve Sherry Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 40%

Nose: Light tropical fruit, vanilla, chocolate orange, dried fruits

Taste: Sultanas, orange, cinnamon, mixed nuts

Finish: Orange bitters

Score: 2.25

Summary: There is an alcohol heat element to this that reminds me of Johnnie Walker Red Label.  The traditional sherry matured flavours are not all here.  The dried fruit and nuttiness is there but it’s not prominent and there is an orange note which I don’t normally get that is present all the way through.  There are better sherry finished malts out there for just a little more money.  The benchmark being Aberlour 10.

Scoring scale: My scores reflect a balance of the overall experience, availability and cost for a whisky,

1 – not to my preference

2 – tastes fine but does not excite me

3 – more to my liking and would revisit occasionally

4 – very much to my liking and would consider as a regular feature on my whisky shelf

5 – permanent feature on my whisky shelf
