Review No.114. Dailuaine 16 Year Old

Whisky: Dailuaine 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43%

Nose: Leather, oak, marzipan, cinnamon, malt

Taste: Alcohol tinge, tobacco, leather, fruit cake, fresh doughnuts, walnuts

Finish: Malt, biscuits, tobacco

Score: 3.25

Summary: This is a nice rich sherry influenced malt.  There is a nice maturity to this, which you would expect for a 16 year old malt.  In maturity I mean that leather and tobacco note mixed with spice that is pleasantly warming.  I did also notice a slight roughness in the spirit and also some bitter tannin notes but it didn’t detract from the overall experience.

Scoring scale: My scores reflect a balance of the overall experience, availability and cost for a whisky,

1 – not to my preference

2 – tastes fine but does not excite me

3 – more to my liking and would revisit occasionally

4 – very much to my liking and would consider as a regular feature on my whisky shelf

5 – permanent feature on my whisky shelf
