Review No.110. Strathmill 12 Year Old

Whisky: Strathmill 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, 43%

Nose: Butterscotch, honey, spiced orange, metallic, vegetal, some vanilla

Taste: Spiced orange, honey, alcohol, copper

Finish: Bitter sweet, metallic

Score: 2

Summary: There is a metallic note to this that I am not so keen on and it is noticeable throughout the delivery.  Underneath that there is a pleasant spiciness to this which is carried through in notes of orange and honey.  In addition to that there is something vegetal about it too. I found that water helped open this up but it did not bring anything new to the experience.  This is a very average and not memorable.

Scoring scale: My scores reflect a balance of the overall experience, availability and cost for a whisky,

1 – not to my preference

2 – tastes fine but does not excite me

3 – more to my liking and would revisit occasionally

4 – very much to my liking and would consider as a regular feature on my whisky shelf

5 – permanent feature on my whisky shelf
