Review No.105. Auchroisk 10 Year Old
Whisky: Auchroisk 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, 43%
Nose: Orange, ginger, honey, lemon, vanilla, malt, biscuits, salt
Taste: Marmalade on burnt toast, raisins, sherry, oak, salt, hint of smoke
Finish: Dry, bitter oak and savoury saltiness
Score: 2.25
Summary: Austere is the word I would use to sum this up. I found it to be quite concentrated on the nose so water and time helped open it up. The nose is promising and a lot of the flavours translate directly onto the taste. There is not further development in the flavours that I could pick up but the flavours that I could pick up were enjoyable. I picked up an underlying coastal note throughout which complimented the rest of the flavours. The finish on this is quite drying. I think this is a decent malt but there was not enough to keep me interested.
Scoring scale: My scores reflect a balance of the overall experience, availability and cost for a whisky,
1 – not to my preference
2 – tastes fine but does not excite me
3 – more to my liking and would revisit occasionally
4 – very much to my liking and would consider as a regular feature on my whisky shelf
5 – permanent feature on my whisky shelf
