2019 has been a busy year for me on the Whisky front. I have managed to get through over 150 Whiskies which I have reviewed on the Flavour Chase. As I reflect on the year I would say that I have made good progress on developing my knowledge of and ability to assess a Whisky. There is no shortcut to discovering what your preferences are. I have found that my confidence in knowing what I like and what I don’t like has grown over the course of the year with each malt that I have assessed. Some call it ‘finding your bearings’. I have most certainly found my bearings which in summary are not specific to any particular region of Scotland or the World but to certain flavour profiles and a selection of malts that I consider to sit within those profiles. I also must give credit to certain characters amongst the online whisky community such as WhiskyFun, Ralfy, The Whisky Vaults/Tribe, Malt Review, Aqvavitae and No Nonsense Whisky have accelerated my learning along the way.
I suspect those that I have mentioned will have also given their verdict on their Whisky of the Year so on that I declare that my Whisky of the Year is the Benromach 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky which got a score of 4.25 from me. I won’t regurgitate what I have already mentioned in my review so have a read here.
